Cold River Guide Service

Alstead, New Hampshire

about

Cold River Guide Service provides fly fishing instruction and guiding in southwestern New Hampshire. We service beginners and experienced anglers and design packages to fit your needs. Initial casting and equipment instruction can be offered, guiding for those unfamiliar with our home waters, or we can combine both. Much of our guiding takes place on the 22-mile Cold River which runs through the rural towns of Unity, Acworth, Alstead, Langdon and Walpole. The Cold River is a fishery that receives very little fishing pressure, so solitude on the river is the norm. On top of hatchery stocking each year, the river contains native brook and brown trout, a small population of Atlantic salmon, and in the lower reaches near the Connecticut River there is a healthy population of smallmouth bass. It is not unusual to hook into browns and rainbows in the 18-inch range. We also provide packages for those who may be interested in fishing the excellent tailwaters of the Connecticut River from Bellows Falls, VT/North Walpole, NH down river through Westminster, VT/Walpole, NH. This stretch receives a bit more fishing pressure but allows for wide open big river casting for sizable browns and rainbows and smallmouth in the 3-4 pound range. Guiding is also available on the fly-fishing-only stretch of the Ashuelot River where there are wild brown and brook trout. For anglers who want to take out their 2-3 weight rod and hit small streams, Cold River Guide Service can take you on Warren, Darby, Great, or Thompson Brooks. For those who want the adventure of hiking into pristine waters, we can lead you to backcountry ponds to fish for brookies.
